The High School of Language and Innovation is a welcoming school community that supports newcomer multilingual learners as they build English language skills, academic confidence, and a strong foundation for the future. Our students bring diverse cultures, languages, and experiences that strengthen our school every day.
At HSLI, we provide supportive instruction, meaningful learning opportunities, and a caring environment where students can grow academically, socially, and personally. We are committed to helping every student feel seen, supported, and prepared for college, careers, and life beyond high school.
Our Goal:
To support and challenge our students to acquire the English Language, to help every student pursue a rigorous academic program, and to provide students with an engaging high school experience.
The High School of Language and Innovation (HSLI) is a special place. Students from all over the world work together to learn English, math, science, history, arts, foreign languages, and sports. Students learn how to communicate with clarity and purpose, and work as a team.
HSLI was started in order to meet the needs of the growing number of newcomer immigrant multilingual learners in the Bronx. We graduated our first class in 2015.
I am so proud of our teachers, parents, students, and community partners for helping us to make HSLI the great place that it is.

Taking Risks
Mistakes are celebrated. Students can be vulnerable and ask questions. Teachers create safe spaces where students can take risks.
